Kintsugi
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The concept is that a broken item can be made even more beautiful or refined than that it was originally, or that one's flaws can make them beautiful.
Shodō
Shodō is the Japanese art of calligraphy. It is considered both an art form and a meditative practice in Japan, emphasizing the beauty of written characters and the harmony between the brush, ink, and paper.
Shokunin
The Japanese term shokunin embodies the concept of mastery through dedication, repetition, and a lifelong pursuit of excellence, often through repeated practice and refining of techniques over time. Each paint stroke is counted to symbolize deliberate repetition of small tasks can build to a larger vision.
Portraiture
Portraits captures the essence and individuality of a person, immortalizing their presence in an expressive way. It allows me to explore human emotion, identity, and spirit. I enjoy the challenge of recreating a persons soul in a portrait.
Experiments
I am always experimenting in my work, exploring new subjects, materials, and techniques. Through these experiments I am inspired to create more art and continually improve.
About
Artist, engineer, traveler, and adrenaline junkie. I was born in Myrtle Beach, SC and now live in Tokyo, Japan. I spend my time painting, learning Japanese, riding motorcycles, and snowboarding at every opportunity. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University and have worked in aerospace and firearms engineering. In my art I incorporate the precision of an engineer and the freedom of an artist.
